Calves-harmonization

The calf implants can correct the shape of the calf.

It is possible to increase the size of calves by cosmetic surgery, with a silicone implants (prosthesis). If the muscle is thin, it is difficult to increase its volume. The silicone prosthesis of the calf is the only solution.

In restorative surgery, calf atrophy or defects are good indications (polio, clubfoot, Lou Gehrig's disease). There are often atrophy or failure of unilateral development of the calf.

In aesthetic surgery, a default volume of the calf on one leg is also a good indication. If the initial length of the muscle is suffiscient, the volume may be important and the result is satisfactory.

The intervention:

It is done under local anesthesia plus sedation (neuroleptic) or general anesthesia.

The hospitalization is 24 to 48 hours.

Preoperative drawing is made. The incision (future scar) is made near the bend of the knee (popliteal fossa posterior). After the incision, the muscle sheath is carefully marked, then the box is created. An adapted calf silicone prosthesis with a smooth envelope is placed in the medial gastrocnemius.

Liposuction can be performed at the same time to harmonize.

In the case of reconstructive surgery (poliomyelitis), the introduction of the prosthesis can be tricky if the skin is not distended.

Postoperative care:

Sedatives are administered the first day, so the pain will be completely stopped. This is a real annoyance at first, but as soon as the fabrics soften, it is perfectly tolerable.

Walking can be done quickly, the use of high heels is recommended and the use of crutches (if needed).

Swelling of legs and ankles is present for several weeks after the establishment of calf implants.

Bruises are present for 7 to 10 days.

Leggings can be worn the first few weeks.

Return to sport after 3 months (possibility to maintain the upper body)

Monitoring should be scheduled every year. No change is anticipated unless implant rupture or onset of a shell.

It is very satisfying to have a harmony of shapely calf and thereby mitigating any psychological suffering.
